The DOT Doctor:
PTI

CMV drivers are required to perform a PRE TRIP inspection prior to entering a public roadway.   A POST TRIP is required at the end of the day.   This is when drivers normally document what they inspected.   When a driver writes on his/her PTI report, a mechanic must sign the form.   This is true no matter how minor or unrelated to safety the comments are on the DVIR (Daily Vehicle Inspection Report).   When something is documented on the DVIR, the next driver (which maybe the same driver) has to sign the form as a completion of their PRE TRIP.   Carry the previous day's DVIR with you during your shift.  E-DVIRs may be used in lieu of paper DVIRs.

This video collection offers tips on PTIs for all classes of CMVs.   Other tips, tricks and trainings are included.   Simply choose from the list what video you wish to view.   New videos will be added to this list as deemed appropriate.   A sample DVIR is included above as a working example.
